The Despacho ceremony comes from the Andean Shamanic tradition and has been taught to us by our teachers who have been taught directly by Shamanic Elders of the Q'ero. The Q'ero are the indigenous descendants of the Incas. They withdrew high into the Andes when their land was captured by the Conquistadores in the 1500's and stayed isolated until 1955 during an ethnological expedition of Dr. Oscar Nunez del Prado. The Shamanic Elders of the Q'ero - the Paqo's pass their knowledge to westerners as they don't want their ancestral knowledge and traditions to die out. In the spiritual tradition of the Q'ero the main deities are Pachamama, Mother Earth, Inca, the Sun and the Apu's, the sacred mountains of their land. It is a tradition of harmony and balance. It is considered as most important to live in harmony with everything around you, the animals, the plants, your family and neighbours. The Q'ero call it Ayni which translates as reciprocity or harmony. The main goal is to live in harmony - in Ayni - with everything around you and if you are giving, things will come your way too. A Despacho is an offering which holds prayers and wishes through the offerings of seeds, sugar, leaves and flowers. It can be done for numerous different purposes and it is a beautiful way to make an offering in ceremony. Afterwards a Despacho is burned, given to the earth or the sea and through the elements it carries the prayers to the spirit realm. Such an offering can hold wishes and blessings for a freshly handfasted couple, the blessings for a new borne child or our wishes for the new season, new year or new stage in our life. If you would like to learn more about the different Despacho ceremonies or would like me to hold one for you and you family/ friends, please contact me on the Contact forum.
